Sullivan Cup mixed épée - Cardiff - 21 February 2010

Fast and furious and very well attended was the only way to describe the 2010 O’Sullivan Cup, now in its 21st year, running as a mixed épée pool unique.   Moved from its customary ‘March’ slot to February to avoid a clash with other events, we saw our best turnout ever.

Pulling out a lead right from round one, was Max Weedon (Unattached), with sterling performances throughout from last year’s winner, Gareth Law (Swansea) and Mike Ramsden (Salle Ursa), and newcomer (to this event anyway) Peter Gwynne (Cardiff University).   Max had a good competition with either the best, or second best, score in each of his rounds.   Running head to head throughout were John Wiltshire (Whitchurch) & Jamie Morris (Wrexham), with John just edging ahead in the penultimate round, to take second place.

Well done, too to Whitchurch beginners, Liz & Myfanwy Gulliver, and Lee Jones, on their first foray into competition.

The event opened with a one minutes silence in memory of the late Mike Lee, O’Sullivan Cup winner, 2003 & 2005.

Thanks to Leon Paul for supporting us with a ‘mini-stand’, selling a selection of popular items.

Results:

Winner Max Weedon (Unattached)
Second John Wiltshire (Whitchurch)
3rd Jamie Morris (Wrexham)
Highest placed opp. sex Catherine Fisher (Gwent Sword)
