Bob Turner - photo taken in 1995 Bob Turner, Chairman of Whitchurch Fencing Club, and also Welsh Fencing Chairman 2001-2012, passed away on 19th February 2013 following a serious illness.

Bob was one of the founder members of Whitchurch Fencing Club, having joined Barrie Diamond's Whitchurch evening class along with Alf Pearce & Colin Wickens, as 3 experienced fencers, in 1983.

Bob had a distinguished career as a fencer, representing Wales internationally in the 60s & 70s, and continued to fence competitively until very recently, with one highpoint being his silver medal win in the Veterans World Championships in Johannesburg in 1995.   “In my club, I fence with the World No.2”, one of his colleagues at the Club was heard to say.

Founder of the Turner Cup, for intermediate Mens Epée, Bob received the BFA Silver Medal in 2006, and in 2011 was awarded a ‘Torch Trophy’ by Princess Alexandra on behalf of the Torch Trophy Trust, for Services to Fencing.

Bob will be remembered for his enthusiasm, friendship, generosity, and encouragement.  He will be sadly missed by all.
