British Fencing honours our Head Coach, Lyndon Martin
It was announced at the Welsh Fencing AGM on Sunday that Lyndon Martin has been awarded the British Fencing Bronze Award for Services to Fencing. This is indeed an honour.
To many people in the club, Lyndon is the old guy in the black coaching jacket who gives coaching lessons, and also advice in his own distinctive style.
However Lyndon's fencing career has spanned 59 years. He took up fencing in 1966, having fenced at Swansea Fencing Club, and later Cardiff Fencing Club, as well as other clubs, before becoming our Head Coach in 2014.
His career as a senior international Welsh fencer spanned some 15 years. A Welsh Champion, several times winning the Emrys Lloyd Challenge Plate for Foil (1974, 76, 88 & 89), and also the John Warburn Cup for Epee (1984, 87 & 88). And undoubtedly one of the highlights of his fencing career was as a member of the successful Welsh Epee team, who secured the Silver Medal in the Commonwealth Fencing Championships in Ottawa in 1974.
More recently his main activity has been in coaching, which, as a Level 3 Coach, he does expertly & energetically at all levels, as we all know.
So well done to Lyndon; our sincere congratulations !
